Martin Whitmarsh happy to see Jenson Button back in action – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that he is really happy to see their driver, Jenson Button back in action who secured a striking second podium finish in the 2012 German Grand Prix.
Button suffered with the problem of limited pace because of the lack of downforce and the tyre degradation issue after the Chinese GP. Nevertheless, he made a striking return in the German GP as he secured second podium finish after the defending champion,
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing was demoted to fifth place due to his illegal pass during the penultimate lap.
Whitmarsh asserted that the performance of the 2009 world champion in the last race is the best answer for his critics. Moreover, he said that the British driver has got the potential to attain more competitive results in the season ahead.
“I think the car's a bit quicker, the tyres are working and he is capable of being as quick of anyone,” Whitmarsh said. “In the end his tyres were fairly worn, he'd pushed quite hard, but it was encouraging. For him, he silenced a few of his critics and
I'm sure he'll be focused on the coming races.”
Meanwhile, the sporting director of McLaren, Sam Michael has said that Button had already found his form a couple of grands prix ago, however, he faced difficulties to prove it in the field due to lack of confidence as compared to the other contenders.
“He has been back for a couple of races but because of other circumstances he hasn't shown that. As I've always said through that period of time, we fully support him and he's not a world champion for nothing,” said Michael.
In addition, he said that they are pleased to see the Briton back in action and are hoping to see him achieving more in the approaching season.
Furthermore, he said that they are trying to make the significant enhancements in their car so as to come up stronger in the Hungarian GP. Over and above, he said that there aim is to win this year’s championship title for which they are striving at their
best.
