Martin Whitmarsh insists McLaren must keep on working hard – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh believes that competition is going to be very tight in the remaining season and has said that they must work harder to win the championship title.
Lewis Hamilton of the Woking based team performed remarkably well in the qualifying of the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix held at Marina Bay Street Circuit and secured an inspiring pole position.
Even though, he maintained his lead in the race until he faced an issue in his gearbox he had to retire during 23rd lap which was a big disappointment for the British driver as he lost some crucial points in the championship battle.
Whitmarsh said that it is very important for them to resolve the reliability issues so as to come up stronger in the forthcoming races. In addition, he said that they are very upset of what happened in the preceding race with Hamilton as they lost some crucial
points in the championship fight.
“Reliability, performance, eliminating mistakes, all those things are important,” said Whitmarsh. “We're inevitably disappointed with what has happened.”
Nevertheless, he said that they are a very strong team and praised the persistence of the 2008 world champion. Besides, he said that they are now focussing to win the remaining six grands prix of the current season.
In addition, he said that even though the competition will get tougher in the upcoming races, however, he said that they are going to push harder to attain competitive results.
Over and above, he said that 27-year-old has surely got the potential to claim the championship title and they are hopefully looking forward to perform well in the races ahead.
“We're a strong team, Lewis is showing great character, and we'll focus on the six remaining races and see if we can win them. We'll keep pushing,” he said. “The situation is obviously a lot tougher now, but we're not giving up, and certainly Lewis is not
giving up because it's still doable. A lot of things can still happen in this Championship, and as I've said all along it's going to be determined in Brazil I believe, and therefore we have to keep pushing.”
