Martin Whitmarsh insists McLaren will work hard to improve their performance – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they have gathered some valuable information from the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix and will be working hard to improve their performance for the season ahead.
Jenson Button of the Woking-based team performed impressively well in the race and managed to secure a 6th place finish after starting from 9th grid position. On the other hand, his teammate, Sergio Perez failed to score any points because of his collision
with Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus despite showing some amazing moves in Monte Carlo.
However, Whitmarsh has expressed that they are very much satisfied with their performance in the last round. Furthermore, he said that they have successfully made some important progress in their car for which they are feeling very happy.
“We should have had a decent haul of points, but we have made a little bit of progress,” Whitmarsh told AUTOSPORT.
“The interesting thing coming here was we actually had reasonable stability under braking, and reasonable traction, which is basically where we were being killed previously,” he explained.
Even though he said that they have not been able to achieve the desired level of performance in the season so far, however, he stated that they are quite content with their progress.
“We haven't got enough performance yet, but we are making a bit of progress and the balance of the car wasn't bad,” he said.
In addition, he said that they need to keep on working hard until they are able to attain competitive points with consistency.
“We will keep pushing until we get ourselves in a good competitive position,” he added.
Presently, the British squad are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their main opponent, Force India.
Meanwhile, Button is at 10th place in the drivers’ championship with 25 points. Besides, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus. In contrast, Perez is at 12th place in the drivers’ standings with 12 points. Let’s see
how they perform in the approaching race.
