Martin Whitmarsh says Lewis Hamilton deserves to win 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that their driver, Lewis Hamilton deserves to win the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
The British driver, who is currently at third place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points, dominated the timesheets in the qualifying of the Spanish GP but started the race from the last grid position as he failed to keep the minimum level of fuel
in the car before moving back to the pit at the end.
Nonetheless, he still managed to secure 8th place finish in the race with only two pit stops and expressed that he is proud of his team’s efforts and his performance.
Afterwards, Whitmarsh expressed that even though he suspected that the fuel may run out of the car towards the end of the qualifying. However, he still made a call to keep Hamilton on track because he wanted him to start the race from the pole. Over and
above, he admitted that he made a mistake and accepted the verdict of race stewards.
Furthermore, he said that he wants to see the 2008 world champion victorious in the next race in Monte Carlo. He added that they need to make the substantial developments and the significant preparations in order to improve the pace of their car for the
race ahead.
“He is in that frame of mind, he deserves it - there is absolutely no doubt about it,” said Whitmarsh. “We have to work hard, make sure he has got a good car, make sure we don't make any mistakes, and make sure he is in a position to fulfil his potential
at a circuit where he has won in F3, GP2 and F1. He has won it in every category - so he would like to win it again.”
He added, “We have won more Monacos than anyone else, we go there with the belief that we can win.”
Even so, he said that it will be very hard to make any kind of predictions for the forthcoming race as there have been five different winners in the first five races who ran on entirely different cars’ setups.
