Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren are not giving up on 2013 – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh said that they are not giving up on the 2013 Formula 1 season despite their poor start and are looking forward to keep on making essential developments to get their competency back.
“We're not giving up on this year so be assured there is a big effort to develop this year's car and to restore McLaren to the level of competitiveness that we expect of ourselves,” Whitmarsh said.
The British squad have struggled a lot with some huge technical and tyre management issues in the first five races of the season due to which both their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez failed to score good points with consistency.
Presently, they are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 29 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their major opponent, Force India who have performed convincingly well in the season so far.
Despite their struggling start to this season, Whitmarsh has said that they are not feeling disappointed and are targeting to make the necessary advancements in order to improve the pace of their car to compete well with their rivals in the approaching races.
Besides, he said that they are hoping to score good points with consistency in the season ahead.
“It's still early enough in the season; we struggle to give up. We've got to believe we can get up there and get some good results. Sometimes it's a weakness in us, we'll have to take stock of it later in the season - but at the moment we're very determined
to make our car competitive and provide the sort of results that we expect from ourselves,” he added.
In addition, he said that although they need to do a lot of work to make the required step-ups for the next two seasons because of some dramatic changes in the technical rules by FIA. But, he expressed that currently their main focus is to improve their
car’s performance in this season.
It will be exciting to see whether the Woking based team will be able to resolve their reliability issues or not and how they perform in this weekend’s race in Monte Carlo.
