Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren can win more races and 2011 championship possible – Formula 1 news
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has said that his team can win more races in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He also mentioned that winning the 2011 title is possible for them despite a gap of 103 points to the Red Bull Racing team in the constructors’ championship.
The team boss admitted that it will be difficult for them to fight with their competitors in order to challenge this year’s title, but they must try to do it in the last eight rounds of the ongoing season.
Whitmarsh talked about the other strong teams and said, “I'd like a one-two and it'd be handy if a Red Bull was not the third car on the podium if we get a one-two, and so we'd welcome Ferrari on the podium as well. We’ve never been a quitter and this time
isn't one. Whatever happens we are going to try to win every race and that's the great challenge.”
He added, “If you had asked my in Australia to give you a prediction I couldn't have given you one. What I can predict is that we will be working bloody hard trying to win every race that we can. We have two great drivers, a great team, the car's not bad,
and we’ve made some good progress.”
After winning the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, the McLaren team boss stated that they can keep this momentum until the end of the season and win the season’s championship as well. In addition, he mentioned that winning the title is tough, but it is possible
for both of the drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Apart from that, he discussed the last eight races of the season and added that he believes the team drivers will give their best shot in the rest of the 2011 F1 season, as they want to win this year’s title.
McLaren believe they have a winning car this year and it can support both of the drivers in any difficult situation.
Let’s see how McLaren perform in the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season in order to challenge the championship.
