Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren must keep on working hard – Formula 1 News
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they need to keep on working hard to make the necessary developments in their car to score good points in the 2013 Formula 1 season ahead.
The Woking based squad have not been able to attain competitive results in the season until now. Both their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, have struggled with immense technical and tyre management issues due to which
they failed to score good points.
Despite the ongoing difficulties, Whitmarsh has said that they have made some good progress in terms of their car development and are hoping to perform well in the forthcoming races. However, he insisted that they must not get
carried away from their progress and should keep on making efforts to improve their pace.
“Obviously I'm not doing handstands or anything like that,” Whitmarsh told Press Association. “We are still not where we expect to be or want to be, but at least it was a step in the right direction.”
Besides, he said that they need to continue making the significant developments in their car for the upcoming races. Although, he expressed that they have not been able to get the desired results from the development programme
in the season so far, they are still positively looking forward to come up stronger in the approaching races.
“I don't think there has been change of pecking order as consequence of what we saw in Germany,” he added. “For us, there are no secrets here, we have to continue to try to develop car. We've made a little bit of progress, but
frankly not as much as we would like.”
“We'll be racing hard and trying to make a bit more progress the rest of this year,” he said.
At present, the British squad are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship and they have only been able to score 49 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their main rival, Force India.
It will be exciting to see how they perform in the season ahead and whether their updates bring them good results or not.
