Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren need to maximise the given circumstances – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they need to maximise all the given circumstances so as to fight for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
The Woking based team has performed amazingly well in the current season so far and is standing at second place in the constructors’ championship. Moreover, they are behind Red Bull Racing who are leading the rankings with 246 points and are ahead of Lotus.
Although, the defending champions have a strong lead over McLaren, however, the British squad is not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to score some important points in the forthcoming races.
Furthermore, their drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton are the two extremely talented and competent contenders in this year’s battle and they have a fair chance to claim the championship title.
Additionally, Whitmarsh admired the performance of the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who has delivered terrific performances in the season so far.
“In the first 11 races we were on front row eight times, so car is not slow in qualifying at least,” he said. “But this season has been difficult for everyone and you would have to say Fernando and Ferrari have done great job: one in terms of development and two in terms of getting best out of package.”
Besides, he said that although they have got the best development package, however, he said that they earnestly need to carry on the developmental process in order to attain competitive results in the approaching races.
“We haven't got the best out of our package,” he said. “However, I think we are on more solid foundations and we are making some progress. There are lots of points up for grabs, and that is what we have to keep reminding ourselves.”
Above and beyond, he said that they need to enhance their qualifying pace in the upcoming races. He added that they are also trying their best to improve their understanding about this year’s Pirelli compound tyres to gain a competitive edge over their rivals.
Let’s see what updates they bring in the Belgian GP and how they perform in the second half of the season.
