Martin Whitmarsh says team not in hurry to address Lewis Hamilton rumours – Formula 1 news
Team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that they are not in a hurry to end the speculations about Lewis Hamilton replacing Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
They are not distracted by the rumours and their victory at the Italian Grand Prix is a proof. They are focussing towards the problem which Jenson Button, other driver of McLaren, faced at the Monza Circuit.
Whitmarsh feels that McLaren is a great team for Hamilton. He told that they will surely have some other conversations as well but their main focus is to understand the problem Button faced on the Italian circuit. He added that they will consider the matter,
related to Hamilton, with more dedication after they are done with more important tasks.
He said, “My feeling is this is a great team for Lewis to stay in. He's got to want to stay here and we'll figure that one out after we've had some celebrations. I think we're focusing at the moment on enjoying the moment, understanding what happened with
Jenson [Button], make sure we've got a programme in place for Singapore; those are the really important things and then we'll doubtless have some other conversations in the meanwhile.”
Furthermore, he said that he does not think that it is important to resolve the issue before the Singapore Grand Prix. He added that he believes that by winning the Italian GP they have proven that they are fully focussed towards the race and such distractions
do not mean anything to them. Besides, he said that they have to win more races by the end of the current 2012 season.
Moreover, the team principal said that he has not considered the next 2013 season without Hamilton. He added that they are a winning team and the former champion is a winning driver. He added that it would be a rational approach to believe that Hamilton
would stay with McLaren.
Additionally, he said that whole of his time is dedicated to Formula 1 but it is not dedicated towards such matters rather, it is dedicated towards making a quick car, winning races and later championship.
