Martin Whitmarsh shows concern about McLaren’s current form – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has shown concerns about team’s current form after an uncompetitive performance in 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren could only secure 8th place finish in the last race after taking a start from the same grid slot. Meanwhile, his teammate, Jenson Button also struggled during the qualifying as he could not make his way into the second
session and scored only 1 point after securing 10th place finish.
Whitmarsh admitted that they are facing issues with the tyre management and aerodynamics of MP4-27. Nevertheless, he said that they have planned to come up with some major updates in the German GP which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22 which will
hopefully provide them a competitive edge over other contenders and will help in regaining their form.
“What you can do is learn about the tyres do better job with tyres because we know they're very significant and bring the upgrade packages as quickly as you can. We've got reasonable upgrade package for Germany, and we'd like that to be as performance and
as successful as we can and make sure we can make it to Germany,” he said.
He added, “I think it's tough, but I think we've been through all sorts of highs and lows as team. I think we're resilient enough. The drivers are actually happier with their performance; I think drivers did good job”.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to increase the car’s downforce and to create better understanding about the tyres’ usage. He also said that they are bringing out the best in them to keep on making the essential advancements so as to
strike back in the forthcoming races to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
Presently, the Woking based team is standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 142 points. Additionally, they are just 2 points behind Lotus and are 40 points ahead of Mercedes.
Let’s see how the season turns up for all the teams in the upcoming races.
