Martin Whitmarsh shows support for post-race tests – Formula 1 News
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has shown support for post-race tests and thinks that testing will provide great assistance to reduce the costs.
The teams have submitted a proposal to World Motor Sport Council of the FIA for having four two-day tests in the week after the European Grand Prix so as to test the necessary updates in their cars. Although, the proposal is yet
to be accepted by the FIA, Whitmarsh has already expressed full support for it as he believes that the post-race testing will help in cutting down the costs by removing the test sessions on other tracks.
“Historically I have always supported a limitation on testing, as well as a whole range of other limitations, but compromise being struck of testing at a circuit on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday after a race in Europe makes it a little
bit more practical,” he told Autosport.
Besides, he said that he is hoping to see support for the proposal from most of the F1 teams.
“What we have also done is take out plethora of demo runs, aero runs, and young driver test,” he said. “It is a balance and a compromise that has been struck, which I hope a majority of the teams support.”
“We have tried and done a little bit of that, and by testing together you can do deal with circuits,” he added.
Additionally, he said that although he supports the post-race testing proposal, it doesn’t mean that he is predicting a separation between race teams and tests in the future.
It will be important to mention that the Woking based squad have not been able to attain competitive results in this season until now. They have faced some immense reliability issues because of which their drivers, Jenson Button
and Sergio Perez, failed to score points with consistency.
Currently, they are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their major competitor, Force India.
Despite facing huge problems in the season so far, the British squad are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races.
