Norwich City defender Russell Martin admitted he was disappointed to see http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert leave the Carrow Road for Aston Villa, but dismissed the idea that his exit will have dire repercussions for the club.
The 42-year old Scott, who helped the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish’s sacking almost two weeks ago.
After steering his side to a 12th place finish in the league table during the 2011/12 season, the former Borussia Dortmund player was strongly linked to the Villa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. The Villans suffered one of their worst league campaigns in almost a decade,
finishing sixteenth in the final standings-only 2 points clear of the relegated team Bolton Wanderers.
Martin expressed his disappointment over losing out on Lambert, but conceded he was justified in taking a decision best suited for his career.
He said of the Scott’s departure, “Obviously we are disappointed, but he has made the decision which is best for his career.”
Lambert took over the reins of Norwich in August 2009 from Bryan Gunn. In total, he managed the Canaries in 142 matches in all competitions and compiled an impressive 49.3 percent win record.
He also helped the club accomplish successive promotions in 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons- a feat last achieved by Manchester City eleven years ago.
Martin admitted that the club owes Lambert a great deal for masterminding the Canaries ascent to the Premier League, and the entire team learnt loads of things under his management. However, when asked if his exit would have disastrous effects in the coming
season, the Scottish footballer dismissed the suggestion by saying that the players had matured enough to play under any manager and was confident that the new appointment will be able to build on Lambert’s achievements.
He said, “I do not think we worry at all. The club and the chief executive and the board members will have their candidates in place. There will be a lot of people wanting the job, because it is a great job to take at the minute.”
With rumours also circulating in the media quarters over striker Grant Holt’s possible exit from Carrow Road in the summer, Martins indicated that he would respect the player’s decision if he part ways with the club but wants him to continue at Norwich.
Holt has reportedly been linked to a move to the newly promoted West Ham United for an estimated 4 million pounds fee.
Martin added, “Hopefully he will not be remembered for this. Hopefully it will not end on a sour note. Hopefully he stays.”
