Martina Borecka flabbergasts Elixane Lechemia in quarterfinal – Loughborough Challenger 2011
Eighth seeded Czech Martina Borecka overpowered second seeded French Elixane Lechemia in the quarterfinal of the Loughborough Challenger 2011.
The two players duelled swords on carpet courts of Loughborough University in Leicestershire, Great Britain and it took the eighth seeded Czech one hour and forty four minutes to do away with the second seeded Frenchwoman in straight sets of 6-2, 7-6(4) on Friday the 11th of November 2011.
The opening set of the match was a clear lopsided victory for the eighth seeded Czech and she managed to accomplish a 72 percent of her total service points along with, an average return which aided her in achieving 48 percent of her total return points.
Moreover, Borecka had a strong defence which did not falter as she managed to save a hundred percent of her breakpoints and instead capitalized on a hundred percent of her breakpoints won. She bagged the opening set with 60 percent of total points won in the first round.
The Czech had decided to go first as she had just won the service toss and she comfortably placed herself on the scoreboard at 1-0. Trailing behind was Lechemia, who too held her serve and placed herself on the scoreboard at 1-1. In the following two games each player had managed to hold their service game and the score tied at two games each.
However, Borecka was tired of the cat and mouse play and cut the goose chase by capitalizing on two break points in the sixth game and the eighth game to clog the opening set by restricting her opponent to only two games. As she bagged the opening set, she took the competitive edge over her adversary.
The second set was initiated by Lechemia and once again the two started the cat and mouse play as each player bagged a service game on their respective serves. The score kept tied for the first eight games and for the last time at five games each at the end of the tenth game. In the last two games both the players traded in breaks and the set was eventually shoved into a tiebreaker.
During the tiebreaker, they once more matched a blow for a blow and the head-to-head run carried well into the tiebreaker. However, the last time the score balanced out between the two was at four points each from there onwards, Borecka made a dash and cut the goose chase as she rushed past her adversary to clinch the tiebreaker at 7-4.
In doing so; she managed to reserve a spot in the semi final where she will be facing third seeded French Myrtille Georges.
