Former world number one, Martina Hingis, predicts a lot more wins for the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, who recently lifted his seventh Wimbledon trophy at the All England Lawn Tennis Club; beating the number one Briton, Andy Murray,
in the grand finale of the tournament.
It was not one but two glories combined in that win for the 30-year-old Swiss superstar. He clinched his first Grand Slam Championship of the year and moreover jumped up to the top of the world rankings from the third place; knocked
out the Serb tennis ace, Novak Djokovic, from his perch and drowned the ranking of the Seven-time French Open Champion, Rafael Nadal, to number three.
Hingis, compatriot of Federer, spoke about the living hero of her nation and stated, “He has a great chance to win the Olympics.” Some of you might be thinking that this interview was influenced by the news of the withdrawal of
the defending champion from Spain, Rafael Nadal, from the upcoming London Olympics but this interview was recorded before the broadcast of the sad news about Nadal.
Hingis is playing in the WTT league created by Billie Jean King that features both professional and amateur tennis professionals. She is participating in that and beating the players that are ranked in 60’s and 80’s in the world
consistently. Talking about that the Swiss tennis ace stated, “You have your teammate, you help each other out. Even on a day when you’re not feeling great you have someone to lift you up and vice versa. I think it’s pretty cool.”
Venus Williams is three months elder than Hingis is still playing on the elite professional platform and doesn’t seem to retire anytime soon however, the Swiss star has no plans of returning to the professional circuit. She is
happy with her life at the moment and doesn’t want to disturb it with professional hectic tennis.
Federer called Hingis and asked about her availability for the mixed doubles play at London Olympics. It was expected that the two players will have consensus and play in the upcoming tournament at Wimbledon. However, she said
that it was a good idea but the execution was not possible because her body was not ready to take a toll and be serious about tennis anymore.
However, she wishes the Swiss Maestro for his gold medal campaign at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Olympics start in a week’s time from Thursday.
