Martina Hingis loves her relaxed routine- Tennis News
Swiss star and former world number one, Martina Hingis recently, introduced her new line of tennis clothes but has not yet bidden farewell to the tennis courts. She will be competing in an exhibition match against the Canadian,
Sharon Fichman, at Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver on Wednesday.
Hingis contentedly retired in 2007 from the professional tennis circuit but she has always been a phenomenal player relying on finesse attempts. The 31-year-old is five-time Grand Slam champion refused to her fellow citizens Roger
Federer to contest for the London Olympics games in mixed doubles.
She was a child phenomenon and won her first Grand Slam with Helena Sukova, at the tender age of 15-years. She reached the world number one singles and secured four Grand Slam titles, further going on to win the finals in Paris.
She missed on diversity and with age, her performance declined. However, she discovered her new passion and joined collaboration with Tonic. She claims to be completely engrossed in her busy but luxurious lifestyle.
In a press conference Hingis said, “I don’t miss the workouts, the grind, the training — the six hours on court, I don’t miss that at all. I would have had to get back in the grind and train six months and play some doubles, some
real competitions. I was happy when he thought about me, but I was like ‘yeah, you go get the gold medal in singles,’ right.”
As the Swiss legend’s passion for tennis has not yet died down, she often contests for the exhibition matches and regularly coaches a group of teenagers in Paris. She is enthusiastic about her latest tennis apparel launch and is
busy marketing it.
The senior player has received great appreciation from her fans. Her ankle injury was the result of her early retirement in 2003. Many believe that she took an early departure as compared to her contemporaries like the William
sisters. However, Hingis does not strive to be that physically fit.
She also told media, “If I had Serena’s serve, probably I’d still be playing as well. My game was just a little bit different. To hit four aces in a game, that makes tennis pretty easy.”
Hingis believes that she still wants to play tennis. She is of the view that it gave her a new lifestyle and a social standing. She has always won the appreciation of her fans and has been a source of inspiration from young champions
to come.
