Martina Hingis ready for challenge of World Team Tennis
The countdown has begun for the world’s best 35 tennis players of all times who have made an impression on the game with a superb display of tennis. The players will be setting up history as the 35th anniversary of the World Team Tennis is just around the corner. Martina Hingis and Billie Jean King are two women players who will participate in the competition. However, Martina Hingis, a former world no 1 tennis sensation, will receive more coverage than any other player. She triumphed in the Grand Slam singles tournament on five different occasions in her career so far. The Swiss tennis ace will make a comeback this summer in the World Team Tennis and will represent the New York Buzz.
The tennis player from Switzerland was banned after she tested positive after a drugs test at Wimbledon back in 2007. So fans will see her in action once again after a period of about four years. The fire and love for the sport of tennis still seems to be pretty much active in her, even after what happened to Martina’s career as a result of her drug test results. Her back to back injuries further added fuel to the fire. The girl won the doubles title at Wimbledon when she was just 15 years of age, thus becoming the youngest ever women champion of a Grand Slam event.
In an interview, Martina admitted her never ending love for the sport that has actually compelled her to compete once again in this summer’s tournament. It is all because of that emotional attachment that has always pushed the Swiss athlete to move on and continue playing tennis in spite of all the hurdles that has come in her way. According to Martina, the rivalry while playing against different oppositions is always an encouraging feeling that actually made her play the best tennis of her life. It seems as if Hingis wants to relive that moment of joy once again and is really looking forward to exhibit some wonderful display of tennis. Martina will be playing for the Albany-based team during the whole season that will start from July 5 at home against the Freedoms. On July 21, at the Pavilion, they will pay a trip to the Freedoms on Villanova's campus.
The 29-year-old Martina Hingis has been the centre of attention in the past for one more reason then her tennis. The comments that she made about the William’s sister also kept her under a lot of consideration as well as discussions in the media. When questioned about the opportunity to play against the William’s sisters during this season, she indicated her previous clashes against the both the sisters. They always come out with a superb exhibition of tennis especially while playing against each other as accepted by the Swiss tennis sensation as well. Hingis has some amazing memories from the past that feature some of the best tennis seen in women tennis. Undoubtedly, the competition this time would be entirely different all together but the woman looks perfectly ready for the upcoming challenge.
This won't be the first return for Martina Hingis in the game of tennis. Due to her ankle injury back in 2005, she came back successfully to the WTA Tour and ended the season in 2006 as the seventh ranked tennis player in the world. So will history repeat itself this time for Hingis?
The time has definitely changed a lot and so the level of expectations should not be the same from Hingis who will turn 30 this year. No doubt the Swiss star is really fond of playing tennis but her age factor cannot be ignored in any case.
While returning to Wimbledon, she will be paired up with Anna Kournikova in the doubles legends match who is also making a comeback in tennis at the All England Club.
Hingis seems to be in a nice position and is ready to live another life in the game of tennis. She looks forward to the team tennis environment so that she can revive the all-world talent that portrayed her like an icon in the world of tennis.
