Martina Hingis says, “I do”!
Martina Hingis, one of the tennis greats, who won a grand total of 5 Grand Slam titles in singles, is all set to venture into unchartered territory. Yes folks, you heard it right; Hingis will now be playing doubles. The former
tennis star has tied the knot with French show jumper Thibault Hutin in a private ceremony in Paris.
According to Swiss celebrity magazine, Schweizer Illustrierte, the civil ceremony took place last Friday at the City Hall with only close family and friends in attendance.
A small reception was also held at the Presidential Suite of Hotel George V, in Paris. The traditional Swiss wedding feast will be celebrated next spring.
The 30-year-old blushing bride told the magazine:
“Our wedding came as a surprise for many, but it has been in planning long in advance.” The magazine also had exclusive rights to publish photos from the event and it posted them on its website early Monday morning. The ceremony has been described as
a simple yet elegant affair, “very tastefully done.”
The lovebirds met at a show-jumping competition in St. Tropez earlier this year, shortly after she broke of her long engagement to Andreas Bieri, a Swiss attorney. Hingis is a great lover of show horses and she has ridden them
for almost her entire life. Perhaps then, it was only a matter of time before she fell madly in love with a rider too.
According to some sources close to the couple, they will be spending their honeymoon in Maldives.
The former tennis star is one of the greatest the sport has ever seen. At the peak of her career, she held the top spot in the women’s ranking for over 200 weeks and she achieved all this while she was just in her teens. In 2002,
she was forced out of the professional arena due to some injuries at a very young age of just 22. Although she made a comeback in 2005, she was never able to capture her former glory and decided to retire in 2007, when she tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon
and was suspended subsequently.
Although many are of the opinion that the marriage has come to room after the couple met and are terming it as a rash mistake, we sincerely hope that it is a very successful one. Much love and luck we send you way Mrs. Martina
Hutin.
