Martina de Memme captures Women’s 800m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Martina de Memme of Italy captured gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on sixth day of the Swimming events at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia on Monday, July 15.
The Italian swimmer showed no mercy to her challengers in the distant freestyle event as she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for the title. With her notable pace, she remained in a prominent lead over her challengers and emerged on the finishing
wall for gold medal.
With her scintillating effort, she stayed in a slight lead over her following competitor as she emerged on the finishing wall for gold medal by producing an effort of 8 minutes and 28.09 seconds.
The first position was traced by Stephanie Peacock of USA, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower from her preceding finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 28.21 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Ashley Steenvoorden of USA, who stayed 0.32 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking a time of 8 minute and 29.79 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the event was secured by Julia Hassler of Lufthansa, who was only eight seconds apart and settled on the finishing end by clocking an effort of 8 minutes and 37.05 seconds.
Fifth fastest qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Katie Goldman of Australia, who remained only 0.5 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 37.10 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Aurora Ponsele of Italy, who was 1.44 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 8 minutes and 38.54 seconds.
Subsequently, Gemo was chased by Asami Chida of Japan, who was 0.13 seconds apart and concluded her swim in seventh place by producing an effort of 8 minutes and 39.61 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Savannah Kind of Canada, who was almost four seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and tapped the wall with timing of 8 minutes and 43.15 seconds.
In addition, De Memme was extremely pleased with her top finish in the race while the winner collected medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
