Martinavarr/Baena, Krueger/Vinsant reach Boys’ Doubles Final – French Open 2011
Martinavarr/Baena defeat Dubarenco/Manafov 7-5, 3-6, 10-8
Andres Artunedo Martinavarr and Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain survived a second set scare to battle past Moldovan/Ukrainian team of Maxim Dubarenco and Vladyslav Manafov in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in the semi-finals of French
Open at Roland Garros in Paris on Friday. The match lasted for two hours and 27 minutes.
Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena broke the Moldovan/Ukrainian pair in the eleventh game of the first set to take a 6-5 lead and served out the set in the next game, winning it 7-5. The Spaniards hit 68 percent of the first
serves and won the same percentage of points on them in the opening set.
Fighting back in the second set, Dubarenco and Manafov broke their opponents in the fourth game of the second set and held their next service game, blazing forward to a 4-1 lead. The Moldovan/Ukrainian pair did not allow Artunedo
Martinavarr and Carballes Baena to break back and won the set 6-3. Dubarenco and Manafov capitalised on one of the two break point opportunities they created and saved the only break point they faced in the second set.
In the match tie-break, Artunedo Martinavarr and Carballes Baena claimed a single mini-break and consolidated on it to win it 10-8.
The Spanish pair is drawn to meet Americans Krueger and Vinsant in the title match.
Krueger/Vinsant beat Jankovic/Kuzmanov 6-2, 6-2
Mitchell Krueger and Shane Vinsant of USA cruised past Serbian/Bulgarian pair of Miki Jankovic and Dimitar Kuzmanov in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to reach the final. The Americans needed just 47 minutes to undo their opponents.
Kruger and Vinsant broke Dimitar and Kuzmanov in the first and fifth game and did not lose their own serve throughout the opening set, winning it 6-2. The Americans hit one ace and kept their first serve percentage at 57 percent
in the first set, clinching a whopping 83 percent of the points on the first serve. The unseeded team converted 52 percent of the service returns into points in the opening set. Krueger and Vinsant capitalised on both break point opportunities they created
and did not face any break point on their own serve in the first set.
In similar fashion to the opening set, the Americans dropped just a couple of games in the second set to grab it 6-2. Krueger and Vinsant delivered a single ace and 76 percent of the first serves, snatching 75 percent of the points
on them. The Americans won three of the eight break points they received and managed to save one of the two breaks points they faced in the second set. Krueger and Vinsant grabbed a total of 26 points compared to eighteen by their opponents in the second set.
