Martine Bras wins third stage as Grete Treier takes overall lead in Poitou Charente 2011
Dolmans Landscaping team’s Martine Bras showed his brilliant performance in the third stage of Tour International Feminin en Limousin Poitou Charente 2011 in Saint Junien on Saturday, July 23. Grete Treier took overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The Netherland cyclists took a total of 3 hours, 29 minutes and 4 seconds to cover the distance of 128 kilometres. Karol-Ann Canuel of Mixed Vienne was runner-up with 1 second behind Bras.
Coryn Rivera of the US National team finished third with the difference of 2 seconds ahead of Roxane Knetemann of Batavus Ladies cycling.
Emma Grant (For Viored Brooke), Vocht Liesbet De (Belgium) and Julia Martisova (Russian Federation) were in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
Robyn Lee De Groot of Lotto Honda was in good form and tried her best to catch the 33 leading cyclists but she failed to hold her pace and grabbed 36th place with the difference of 12 seconds ahead of Malgorzta Jasinska (S.C. Michela Fanini Rox)
and Mayuko Hagiwara (Mixed Asahi-ESGL 93).
A total of fourteen cyclists including, Nina Ovcharenko (S.C. Michela Fanini Rox), Lina-Kristin Schink (Team GSD Gestion) and Alexandra Carle (Mixed Bourgogne) were disqualified.
After few kilometres to go, a group of five cyclists made their first breakaway and took a lead including, Emma Grant (For Viored Brooke), Roxane Knetemann, Coryn Rivera (National Team), Karol-Ann Canuel (Mixed Vienne) and Martine Bras.
All the cyclists working together to build an advantage of a few seconds the three cyclists Knetemann, Rivera and Grant were caught by the peloton. However, Canuel launched an attack but Martine increased her pace and took a lead ahead of the other cyclists.
S.C. Michela Fanini Rox team’s Grete Treier also took the overall standing with the timing of 7 hours, 1 minute and 57 seconds. Alexand Burchenkova of Russian Federation was runner-up 30 seconds behind Treier.
Coryn Rivera of US National finished third with the difference of 53 seconds ahead of Grace Verbeke and Vuyst Sofie De.
The next stage will start in Bessines sur Gartempe and all the cyclists will cover the distance of 102.1 kilometres.
