Martinez-Macklin to collide on March 17 at Madison Square Garden – Boxing news
The world number one middleweight pugilist and the current holder of the Ring Middleweight title, Sergio Martinez, has started his sparring sessions and has kicked off his training schedule in order to make his fists stiff and muscles hard to take on Matthew
Macklin, the former British and European middleweight champion.
The extravaganza will be staged on March 17, 2012 at the infamous and prestigious Madison Square Garden, New York. The bout is meant to decide who is the real middleweight in the boxing world and will be televised by HBO live in its World Championship Boxing
Show. The pay-per-view is being dubbed as the Real Middleweight Championship and it will be presented by DiBella Entertainment.
Sergio Martinez, widely known as the Maravilla or the Wonder is one of the best middleweights that boxing world has ever witnessed. He has thrown himself in a whopping 52 bouts and has pinned his opponents 48 times. The aspect that makes him lethal is his
knockout capability. Sergio has won 27 of his brawls by knocking out his opponents ruthlessly.
Martinez has lost just 2 bouts and collected 2 draws in his whole 16 year career. He has not only won the WBC and WBA middleweight titles but is also the proud recipient of the WBC Diamond Belt. The 36-year-old always ready to go Martinez said that, “This
is our second week of camp and I feel great, I started camp in great condition, I work out a lot when I’m not fighting so I feel strong right now and we’ll definitely be ready by March 17.”
The down to earth and hardworking Sergio said that he never ever underestimates his opponents. It is this reason why he has started his training at an early stage. Sergio’s rival Matthew Macklin is definitely not a sweet pugilist who can be taken lightly
and who can take the beating like a newbie.
Macklin, widely known as Mack The Knife or The Roscommon Rock has entered in the ring a total of 31 times and has nailed his opponents a total of 28 times. His 19 wins came by knockout whereas he has lost just 3 bouts since 2001. Also known as the Tipperary
Tornado, the world number 12 and UK’s number one middleweight has won not only the EBU (European) middleweight title but has also held the Irish middleweight championship gold for some time.
The Knife is coming in the ring after facing a split controversial loss to Felix Sturm, a bout in which the WBA Super World middleweight title was on the line. Matthew’s fighting ability is evident from the comments put forth by Sergio. Martinez said that
Macklin is a young, powerful opponent who throws a lot of punches and with huge power.
Sergio reiterated that it is going to be a tough clash and he will have to put his every single effort to grab a win over Macklin but at the same time he is confident that he will definitely come out as a victor. Applauding the young 29-year-old’s startling
performance against Strum, Sergio said that he believes it was Macklin’s best ever performance and he lost the fight by just an inch.
Sergio said that this bout will rattle the whole media and will give the fans the best fight of their lives. The current bout will have Sergio’s WBC Diamond middleweight title on the line.
