Wigan Athletic manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez, has stated that he never lost belief that his side could survive being relegated from the Barclays Premier League.
Wigan Athletic’s turn around in form and fortunes has been phenomenal as the club, which was at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table, have come back and secured themselves another season in the top flight of English football.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468, however, never doubted his side’s ability to beat the drop as they have the experience of doing so from last season. He said, "I always had the belief because I know the players and we did it last season.
He continued by praising the younger members of the squad who, he felt, added the much need energy needed to battle the way they did, "We have a young group with real energy, the youth and bravery allowed us to finish really strongly, but more than anything
it is the characters in the club.
Commenting how he had more than 11 different nationalities in the Wigan dressing, Martinez explained that the players had come together under the same banner. He said, "They want to represent Wigan in the right manner and their standards on a daily basis
are what you have seen on the pitch.
Martinez also took a moment to savour the fact that his side had proved the critics wrong as well as the results themselves. "To get the results we have of late and achieve something not many people predicted we would in December, I think we are a nightmare
for pundits in world football."
However, Wigan now face the task of regrouping and recruiting for next season’s campaign and Martinez will be hoping to avoid the relegation battle for a third consecutive season. One problem that has cost the Wigan side dearly is the fact that they tend
to lose their top players to other clubs during the summer.
This time around, the Wigan manager, is focused on bringing in young players to develop at the club as he prepares to “lost players” during the course of the summer transfer window, although fans will be hoping that the replacements will settle in quickly
and deliver.
