Martirosyan disses Angulo, asks for top fighters
Top Rank promoted light middleweight prospect Vanes Martirosyan has jumped on an opportunity to take shots at some of his prospective opponents.
The 2004 Olympian criticized heavy-hitter Alfredo Angulo today for his recent claim that he is willing to fight anyone at any given time.
Weeks ago Angulo turned down a career high payday and an HBO appearance to fight WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.  The move stunned Angulo’s promotional team as they felt he almost certainly would have benefitted from the opportunity.  Angulo, however, made a bid for money to the tune of $1-million, which was rejected.
"I am not like Angulo; I will fight anybody," Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO) said.  “I would have taken what they offered Angulo to fight (current World middleweight champion Sergio) Martinez.”
Recently Angulo like said that if a negotiations come to a standstill between a potential Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Miguel Cotto fight (Cotto just had shoulder surgery) he would jump in and replace Cotto.  Chavez also stated that he is having doubts about travelling to the Philippines to train with trainer Freddie Roach, who is currently trainer Manny Pacquiao for a bout with Antonio Margarito.
Martirosyan rejected Angulo’s offering to replace Cotto, saying that he is the guy who should reaps the benefits of fighting Chavez Jr.  He also said he would take on Angulo.
“I want Angulo, Paul Williams, Martinez or Cotto,” Martirosyan said while preparing for his next fight, which he thinks will be in November or December.   “I want all the top guys.”
Angulo’s offering came across as something as a joke to most in the boxing community.  Chavez Jr. is being groomed for a Cotto fight, and has been fighting in house opponents for some time.  Not being part of Top Rank, it isn’t expected Angulo’s offer will come to fruition.
Martirosyan is about to take a trip Chavez Jr. is hesitant to make to aid Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines in his training.  The two will be sparring and receiving directions from Freddie Roach.
