Marussia aiming to close gap with midfield teams in 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Marussia boss, Graeme Lowdon, has stated that the team is aiming to close the gap with the midfield teams during the 2013 F1 season.
“The gap will definitely be gone, I'm absolutely convinced of it,” Lowdon told AUTOSPORT. “Everyone's obviously going to improve over the winter, but the law of physics says the improvement is only going to be so much. The question is, are we predicting
fairly major improvements, and yes we are. I'm looking forward to it. We just want to be in the mix and racing and I really honestly believe that that's where we'll be next year. We've got a lot to do over the winter but everything's on track. We're genuinely
looking forward to Melbourne.”
The team has decided to use the KERS technology next season as they did not use it this year while competing with Caterham who were. Lowdon said he is not a big supporter of KERS and that they almost beat Caterham without it; Marussia lost its tenth standing
to Caterham in the final race. He told when they are going to use the KERS; it is certainly going to surprise their rivals who in turn will have to work very hard to maintain their position on the grid. He insisted that the gap is going to be removed which
is both good for them and the sport.
Recently, Lowdon has admitted that their 2013 car was on schedule and that the team is really confident this time. He has told if their car can perform quicker laps which it will then they can certainly catch up with other teams and then the team will not
be ignored anymore.
On the other hand, Marussia is the only team in the entry list for 2013 that has not been offered the Concorde Agreement deal. Lowdon said that it will not affect their presence but then it is up to F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, to make the offer or not.
Marussia made its debut in 2010 along with HRT and Caterham. All these teams have failed to score any points since their entry in the sport.
