Marussia confirm engine deal with Ferrari for 2014 – Formula 1 news
Marussia chief executive officer, Andy Webb has confirmed that they have made a new deal with Ferrari which will provide them 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged power units from the 2014 Formula 1 season onwards.
The Banbury based squad have been using Cosworth engines since 2010 and now they have planned to take technical support from the Italian manufacturer from the next year onwards in which the teams will run V6 engines due to the radical changes in the technical
rules of regulations by the FIA.
Webb said that they are pleased to make a new deal with Ferrari for the next season. He stated that their new contract shows their commitment towards the sport and their determination towards making the essential developments in their car so as to perform
well in the future.
“The importance of this development to our team cannot be overstated. Not only will we benefit from a customer supply from the most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One's history, but this also provides further confirmation, if it were needed, of
our commitment to the sport and determination to maintain our progression towards our long-term ambitions,” Webb said.
Besides, he said that the introduction of the new powertrain rules in the next season will be the most significant advancement since the invention of V8 formula.
“The new powertrain regulations being introduced next year represent the most substantial engine development within the sport since the introduction of the V8 formula and are all the more significant for the increased contribution of the Energy Recovery
System,” he added.
Besides, he stated that they are positively looking forward to work with their new engine supplier from the new era of the sport.
In addition, he expressed immense gratitude towards Cosworth who have been their partner since their arrival in F1. He also said that they will continue to work with British manufacturer until the end of this season.
Presently, Marussia are standing at 10th place in the constructors’ championship. Moreover, they are ahead of Caterham and behind Williams. Although, they have not been able to score even a single point in the season so far, it will be interesting
to see how they perform in the forthcoming races.
