Marussia hope 2012 Canadian Grand Prix will be a turning point – Formula 1 news
Marussia team principal, John Booth has said that they are hoping 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 10, will be a turning point for the team.
Marussia are currently standing at 11th place in the constructor championship and they have not been able to score even a single point in the season so far. Furthermore, their drivers, Timo Glock and Charles Pic are presently at 20th and 21st position in
the drivers’ championship.
It will be important to mention that the Banbury based team could not be able to take part in the pre-season testing programme. Moreover, at present, they have been facing immense difficulties with the setup of MR01.
Nevertheless, Booth said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching race. In addition, he said that they are aiming to improve their performance in the qualifying so as to secure a competitive grid position for the race.
“We're hoping that Canada will represent a bit of a turning point that puts us back on the right track again,” Booth said. “The disappointment has centred less around car performance and pace, and more around a few set-up niggles and reliability issues that
have crept in, particularly for Charles. We need to have both cars qualifying consistently and reaching chequered flag.”
In addition, he said admired the affection of the spectators in Montreal while he said that it is one of the most amazing race events in the F1 calendar.
He added, “In past, Montreal has not been short on surprises; we've had everything from small animals to torrential rain intervening in course of events. Montreal is such a fantastic Grand Prix destination and fans are very warm and welcoming.”
It will be quite interesting to note that there have been six different winners in the first six grands prix of the season until now due to which it is very hard to make any kind of projections for the upcoming races.
However, Marussia are trying their best to make the essential advancements and the necessary preparations in order to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races so as to secure a good position in this year’s championship.
