Marussia hoping for MR01 to show positive results in upcoming season – Formula 1 news
Marussia believes that the new MR01 will show good speed during the Australian Grand Prix.
Marussia goes into the first race of the season without any track time data on the new car. The team’s 2012 challenger was supposed to feature in the second pre-season test but due to a crash test failure, it could not.
The Australian Grand Prix will be the first time the car gets into a race situation, the Friday practice session will be a nervy ordeal for the team.
Still Marussia have high hopes of make good progress in the season and news from the camp is that the new MR01 is a big step forward over its 2011 predecessor. The team’s chiefs are hoping the car may be able to produce the best F1 season for the team.
Team’s sporting director Graeme Lowdon told Autosport that the weekend will be a crucial one for the team. Marussia enters the Grand Prix with the knowledge that the car has pace but reliability is an unknown for the team. Last year it was the opposite situation,
the team knew the car was reliable pace was a question mark.
“This year, I think it will be a real challenge to finish these early races because it is a step into the unknown in terms of reliability. But if we see some idea of performance in the sessions at the back end of this week, that will be a massive boost.
It is a long season after that!” he said.
“We are looking at the longer game now,” he said. “There was a lot of complicated surgery taking place at the back end of last year with building up the technical structure, so I think as far as these first flyaways are concerned it is more a case of us
understanding the car and seeing where things are at.”
It will be interesting to see how Marussia fares during the season, it will be the first season for the team since it was rebranded as Marussia from Virgin. It may become the symbol of a step forward in the sport and a move up the grid.
