Marussia loses Friday’s run due to suspension issue – Formula 1 news
Marussia had to abandon it test programme as the car faced suspension issues on Friday.
Charles Pic was going to drive the car for the day and had to be confined to the garage as work was being done on the car for the whole day.
Marussia’s new car was being praised for its reliability as it consistently completed hundred plus laps during the testing days. The car did not show any signs of technical difficulties prior to the suspension issue and the team will be hoping that it is
a one off issue.
The Marussia management though has decided that there little point left in looking into the matter of issue as they look to unveil their new 2012 challenger. Team principal John Booth admitted that they were satisfied with the results of the car after running
it for nearly 1500 kilometres. He said that the team will focus on the new car now and hope that it can bring the same reliability its predecessor has showed.
Marussia finds itself at the bottom of the table and will be looking to move up the order to at least challenge the mid-field teams. The team changed its name from Virgin Racing to Marussia and is banking on the upcoming season to give a positive start to
its new face.
“It's a real shame that after three very positive days with the car we've encountered this issue on the final day,” Booth said. “We can't be too downhearted though, having achieved over 1500kms of near faultless running from a car that has served us so well
from a reliability perspective. Aside from further mileage for Charles there was nothing more to be gained from our programme to aid our development and we now switch focus to the 2012 car, which we are all looking forward to rolling-out next week.”
If Marussia can show the same reliability it has shown with their older car it will be a big boost for the team as teams are finding it hard to come up with a reliable car so far during the pre-tests. A reliable car may just be the difference in the team
at the lower end of the table.
