Marussia not offered the 2013 Concorde Agreement deal yet – Formula 1 news
As the official entry list for the 2013 F1 teams has been announced, Marussia F1 is the only team that has not been offered the 2013 Concorde Agreement deal yet.
Marussia’s sporting director, Graeme Lowdon, stated that they are still uncertain about what to expect.
“The last thing we were told was that the columns 1, 2 and 3 will still be there. But to be honest, as long as there is no agreement, who knows?” said Lowdon. “It has no effect on us in terms of us being here. We will be here, no question. But the situation
has raised the question of whether Marussia will ever be offered a Concorde Agreement deal. I don’t know; it’s up to Bernie. It is strange that some teams have one while others don’t. You would have to ask the owner of the commercial rights or the FIA.”
It is being reported that F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, wants to omit the column 3 from the agreement. Column 3 is the part that benefits the teams that made their debut during the 2010 F1 season. These teams include Marussia itself along with Caterham and
HRT.
However, Caterham has already improved its status by maintaining its tenth position on the constructors’ grid for the last three seasons whereas HRT has failed to find a new buyer and will not be participating in the championship next year so that only leaves
Marussia.
The Concorde Agreement is a deal between the F1 governing body, FIA, and all the F1 teams. The agreement includes the terms that the F1 teams have to follow while competing in the championship and also the rules according to which the commercial profits
and prize money is divided among them.
Initially the deal was to be kept a secret but the contents were leaked in 2005. The purpose of the agreement is to promote the sport on commercial basis. There have been six Concorde Agreements to date and the one in 2013 will be the seventh. The first
deal was made in 1981 and the last one in 2009.
The teams included in the agreement are bound to participate in each race of the calendar which makes F1 a reliable sport for the investors.
