Marussia plan to use KERS in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Marussia technical consultant, Pat Symonds has said that they are going to use KERS in their car for the first time in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
At present, Marussia and HRT are the only contenders in the field who are yet to use KERS in their cars. Nevertheless, Symonds has recently said that they are planning to come up with Williams system in their next year’s car along with Cosworth engine.
“Yes we will be using KERS next year,” Symonds said. “We plan to adopt the system that has been developed by Williams, which was used by them with the Cosworth engine last year and is currently with their Renault-engine car. Our 2013 unit is a development
of this. We've been very impressed with the engineering, the efficiency and the weight. Williams are also a pleasure to work with both technically and commercially.”
It will be important to mention that Banbury based team used McLaren’s wind tunnel during the last year after securing a technical partnership with them.
Moreover, Symonds said that although they are focussing to use KERS in the coming season, however, their main target is to improve the aerodynamics of their car so as to enhance its pace.
Additionally, he said that they are looking forward to make the essential advancements in each and every area in order to attain competitive results in the upcoming races.
“We need to improve in all areas,” he added. “A team is only as good as its weakest part, so we need to bring everything on together.”
Furthermore, he said that he is extremely pleased with the overall efforts of the team over the period of last few months due to which they have gained a lot of confidence to perform well in the forthcoming races after the summer break.
Over and above, he said that their main concern is to show up with strong aerodynamics in the next season along with the necessary development concerning the KERS in their car. Besides, he said that they have got ample time to make the substantial step-ups
in the car for the coming year.
