Marussia rejoice Timo Glock’s 12th place finish in 2012 Singapore GP – Formula 1 news
Marussia have celebrated Timo Glock’s 12th place finish in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix which is their best result in the ongoing season so far.
Glock struggled during the qualifying of the previous race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore and could not make his way into Q2. Nevertheless, he performed reasonably well in the race and managed to secure 12th position after taking
a start from 20th place in the grid.
Even though, the German driver couldn’t score any points for his team, nonetheless, they are still relishing his performance in the preceding race as they have finished higher than their main opponent, Caterham.
Graeme Lowden, the chief executive officer of the Banbury based team has said that they are extremely delighted with their result in the preceding race. Moreover, he said that they have got a competent car and he believes that they are getting closer to
the main rivals.
"We were pretty nervous, but you have to take your chances and we did," CEO Graeme Lowden told the BBC. "We have a good car now and I think we're ahead of our nearest rivals to that extent.”
In addition, he said that they earnestly want to score points like other contenders in the field and they are trying their best to achieve good results in the remainder of the season.
“We want to score points like any other team. If any team finish the year without points it goes off your highest single finish. Ours is 12th so that could give us 10th place overall in the championship and that is important for commercial rights, i.e. money,”
he added.
At present, Marussia is standing at 10th place in the constructors’ championship. Besides, they are ahead of their main rival, Caterham and are 14 points behind Toro Rosso.
Meanwhile, the German driver is presently standing at 19th place in the drivers’ rankings. Additionally, he is behind Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso and is ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov of the Leafield based team.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the Japanese GP.
