Marussia reveals new car on filming day at Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Marussia have revealed the new car MR01 on the filming day at Silverstone.
However, the new car still needs to pass the mandatory crash test of FIA in order to qualify for the first Grand Prix of the upcoming 2012 season, going to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012.
According to the technical consultant of the team, Pat Symonds, the car still has to pass one more compulsory crash test in order to be able to race in the forthcoming season.
“The component in question has actually passed an 'unobserved' crash test but has been performing inconsistently in the observed tests,” he said. “The fail has only been marginal but, nonetheless, we need to completely eradicate that margin and as such we
are taking the time we have to ensure we have an even more robust solution in place.”
Marussia had failed to test drive during all the pre-season tests because of failure in the crash tests before this month. However, the team had been given the permission for the test run on this Tuesday at Silverstone under the testing regulations of FIA.
John Booth, the team boss said that the test run of the new car on track after some the frustrating and struggling few weeks in the past would definitely bring an encouraging feeling for the team.
“We are very pleased to be running the new MR01 for the first time this morning,” said Booth. “It has been a long and frustrating wait for everyone in the team but we can now get back on track - literally – and start working towards the first race of the
season in Australia next weekend.”
Booth said that it would be very important day for the team as every moment would be cherished and enjoyed.
Furthermore, he said that no real results could be drawn from the test run until the team would join the contenders at the season opener in Melbourne.
Moreover, it would be very interesting to know that the new car of Marussia is the only car, other than McLaren, which has not featured a step in its nose.
