Marussia rules out car problems as cause for Maria de Villota’s crash – Formula 1 news
Marussia has ruled out any car problems relating to the tragic crash of Maria de Villota.
Marussia held its own investigation into the accident and has ruled out a car related issue as a cause of the incident.
De Villota lost an eye during the horrible accident. Since the accident she has remained at the hospital recovering from the crash. The first female driver for Marussia lost an eye due to the crash.
She has also suffered head and facial injuries. De Villota crashed into a parked truck at the straight-line test held at Duxford Airfield almost two weeks ago.
Marussia issued the statement on Monday that it has concluded its own investigations and have shared the information with the UK’s health and safety Executive.
The statement read, “14 days after Maria De Villota's accident at Duxford Airfield, the Marussia F1 Team has now completed its own detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.”
“The accident occurred on 3 July during a straight-line test, at which Maria was making her testing debut for the Team and driving an F1 car for the fourth time in her career,” the statement read. “The Marussia F1 Team conducted an initial analysis immediately
after the crash. This aimed to identify the causes and contributory factors behind the accident and also served to determine if there were any car-related implications for the impending British Grand Prix.”
He added that after carefully examining all the data and supplementary information available at that time, the Team is very satisfied that there were no such car-related issues and the chassis of the car has been cleared for the participation in the coming
race in Germany.
Marussia team Principal John Booth added that the team is satisfied with the finding of the internal investigation which excludes the car as a factor in the accident. The findings have been discussed with the HSE for further consideration for the ongoing
investigation. It has been a thorough process in order to completely understand the reasons behind the tragic incident. The team can now focus on the priority of making sure that Maria’s well being is looked into.
