Marussia team principal John Booth expect a tough weekend in Italy – Formula 1 news
Marussia team principal, John Booth has said that they will struggle in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix as their car doesn’t suit the Autodromo di Monza which demands low downforce setup.
Booth said that they are extremely pleased with the performance of their drivers, Timo Glock and Charles Pic in the Hungarian GP last week in which they managed to overtake Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham.
Moreover, he said that they are feeling highly motivated after the preceding race and are hoping to carry on this form in the remaining season so as to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
"We're in a good place right now and last weekend's performance in Spa boosted everyone's spirits," Booth said.
However, he said that the circuit of the forthcoming race requires a unique low downforce specification in the car which they are unable to fulfil. Hence, they are preparing themselves for a tough weekend ahead.
Furthermore, he explained that since they faced difficulty to show their true pace in the Canadian GP in which the low downforce configuration would have worked better, therefore, they are well aware of the fact that they will be encountered with the same
issue in the track of the approaching race.
“Monza is quite a different challenge as its high speed characteristics call for a low downforce set-up and we know from Canada that our car does not work as well at this type of track,” he said.
“We had so many areas to focus our attentions on this season and although we have seen good progress in most areas, Montreal and Monza were always going to be two races where we may not fare so favourably,” he added.
It is to be noted that the Banbury based team has not been able to pocket even a single point in the season until now. Nonetheless, their hopes are high and they are optimistically looking forward to perform well in the upcoming races.
The competition has been very tight in the current season and it will be excitingly thrilling to see how all the contenders show up in the Italian GP.
