Marussia test driver Maria de Villota releases from hospital – Formula 1 news
Marussia test driver, Maria de Villota has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from her severe accident injuries in which she lost her eye.
Villota had a life-threatening accident at Duxford Aerodrome as she hit a truck when she was returning back to the pits after testing some updates in the car. She had an eye surgery in Addenbrooke’s hospital in United Kingdom and was later transferred to
La Paz University Hospital in Spain.
The Banbury based team has recently stated on their official website that she will continue to visit the hospital for the necessary checks ups in the future. Moreover, they said that she is making great progress.
Furthermore, it was stated in the statement that the Spaniard has no neurological injuries and doesn’t need any kind of surgery.
In addition, the specialists have not expressed anything special about her treatment and asserted that they will continue to examine her. Besides, she will receive Ophthalmology service in the upcoming period of time.
“The patient's general conditions are good, which allowed to release her yesterday,” said the statement. “In these six days, she has been treated by specialists of the Plastic and Neurological surgery services, and the Ophthalmology department, who will
continue to follow her, as she will need to undergo periodical checks and treatments. From a neurological point of view, the patient does not present any deficit and does not need any surgery. The specialists have made no special remarks but will continue
to follow her in the forthcoming period of time.”
It will be important to mention that Villota is the daughter of former Formula 1 driver, Emilio de Villota. She made a tremendous debut in Spanish Formula Toyota in 2001. Although, she could not win any race, however, she proved herself as one of the most
diligent drivers in the sport and became the test driver of Marussia in 2010.
Later, she also participated in the Young Driver Test held at Abu Dhabi this year. Over and above, she has taken part in many motorsport events and is definitely a ray of hope for all the women in the world of F1.
