Newcastle United midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sylvain-Marveaux-c34432 is targeting a regular spot in the team’s starting line-up, and believes that his performances will only get better if he gets more games for the team.
The French midfielder only made his second Premier League start of the season on Monday night as Newcastle took on Wigan Athletic at St. James’ Park.
The player made a move to Tyneside from French outfit Rennes in 2011, but has not been able to cement a regular spot in the team’s starting 11.
With the presence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423, Marveaux has had a hard time breaking into the first team. However, an injury to Cabaye (and several other players) has paved the way for the 26-year old. Marveaux impressed in the 3-0 victory over the Latics, and came
close to scoring a goal from a well-struck free-kick.
The Magpies are currently two points adrift from the relegation zone, and this paints a very grim and contrasting picture for the club, who were favourites for a top 4 finish at the start of the season.
Newcastle had suffered 4 consecutive defeats in the league prior to the Wigan game. The team has been plagued with injuries and suspensions, which has seriously dented its prospects for building on last season’s impressive and expectation defying 5th
place finish.
Marveaux was happy to finally get a game for the team, and is targeting more appearances, hoping to help his side push up the league table. Speaking to local press and media, the Frenchman said:
“I was fit all season, but I was waiting for my time. I hope I will be able to play the next game against Fulham as well. I was in a good position on the pitch – my favourite – and I just tried to play my game. But it was just one game. We’ll see now. I’m
just looking forward to the next game.”
“I haven’t played a lot of games in the Premier League, and I was just waiting for my time. I just want to build on it.”
Newcastle travel to Fulham next week on Monday night, and will be hoping to avoid a defeat as they look to move up the league table.
