Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds – Review + character selection guide: Part 2
Each character in the game possesses two different hyper combos and one level three hyper combo. However, Phoenix is the only playable character in the game, who can use up all 5 stored specials at once. If a player has selected Phoenix and had 5 specials
stored up, should Phoenix die, she ends up using all five of the stored specials and gets resurrected as the Dark Phoenix. Not only is she a whole lot stronger, but her moves are also a little different from those of Phoenix.
The game has two main modes, an online mode and an offline mode. The online mode allows you to go online and dish it out against players from all across the globe. The offline mode includes the option of playing the arcade mode, which is where the story
comes into play, or play a versus game. The game only allows two players to play against each other and this has been looked down on as one of the minor setbacks that the game features.
The game also does a brilliant job of building up a player License Card. This License Card records facts about players such as what fighting style they adopt, their recent records, how many wins and losses they have had, what is their best used team, which
characters they are the best with and how many points they have based on their wins and losses so far. These cards let you find ideal players/opponents to face off against online and prevent you from going into an online game, not knowing what to expect from
your opponent.
The menus in the game are pretty simple and easy to use. They have options placed in them laterally and can be navigated through without every getting confused or lost. While entering the character select before any match, players are given the options of
whether they want the control setting to be simple or normal.
The simple control setting takes away a majority of moves from every character, but makes it very easy to play through levels and come out on top in most games. The combos are easier to perform and the ability to connect with aerial combos is also very easy.
The Normal mode, despite being the harder one out of the two, is still the preferred choice for most. Not only does it open up the entire list of moves for your characters, but should one master the game on the normal mode, it become fairly easy to run circles
around opponents and play on the simple mode.
One of the reasons for the game having these two modes is to try and make it more approachable to newbie’s, while the normal mode is a dedicated mode to the loyal fans of the game.
