Marvin Hagler reckons Manny Pacquiao is right in not bowing to Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
Marvin Hagler, who is the sixth greatest middleweight boxer of all times as per the International Boxing Research Organisation, believes the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is doing right by not bowing in front of the five-division world champion
Floyd Mayweather.
The American pugilist Mayweather, who is set to face Victor Ortiz in September 2011, has been saying a lot about the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao with regards to the substance abuse allegations on Pacquiao. He has been refusing to fight
against Pacquiao on the same grounds. On a number of occasions, he has said he wants Pacquiao to go for the drug tests.
The 32-year-old Pacquiao however agreed to all of the tests later on but still Mayweather is not fighting him, as he is not satisfied.
Meanwhile the former undisputed world heavyweight champion, Hagler, thinks Floyd is only making excuses and disgracing the champion. He said Mayweather is no one to dictate anything to someone who is the considered as the number one pound-for-pound fighter
in the world.
“Here's a guy (Mayweather) that wants to dictate to another person and wants to tell you what he wants to do. You know, 'I want you to take this drug test and all these things and whatever,'” Hagler said in an interview.
Hagler remarked if Mayweather wants to fight, he should simply go for it, but if he does not want it then he should also stop passing on such statements.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I think that Pacquiao is right... I mean, who are you? If you want to fight, let's fight. Let's stop all this nonsense.”
In the end Hagler commented on the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight and said if the bout takes place, it is going to be a very helpful thing for the sport.
“I believe that if they get this thing on, it can really boost up boxing and bring boxing alive a little bit. These are the kind of fights that we need to see,” said the retired brawler from New Jersey.
Let’s hope someday this eagerly awaited clash between two of the best boxers in the world takes place.
