Marvin Hagler(1981)vJoe Calzaghe(any time)winner?

just wanting to put things in the correct place re the over exitment of the Brits re Calzaghe,who would have won and how?

The two fighters fought at different weights however if there was to be a catch weight I think that Hagler would beat him easily, Hagler was a lot stronger and faster than Calzaghe,he had a much better chin (he took hard hits from Hearns for God's sake) and was relentless, Calzaghe has a very high work rate and that is what helps him to win fights but I doubt that it would have done much against Hagler, marvin hagler would have stalked him around the ring taking those slaps all day and then would have brutally KO'ed Calzaghe after connecting a hard right jab to Calzaghe's questionable chin. It would be an interesting fight to watch though.

Marvin would have had to move up in weight class but I don't think it would have mattered too much as he was one of the toughest and greatest middleweight champs in history.  I believe that he would have cut off the ring from the speedy Calzaghe and landed the cleaner and harder punches winning by 11th round technical knockout.

Marvin Hagler would have ko Calzaghe no doubt, Calzaghe doesnt punch with authority, besides Hagler had an incredible chin and he's also 1 of the top 3 if not the best middleweight of all time. Joe Calzaghe is good but not good enough to have beaten Hagler

Marvelous one would,as Fudstein says,beat Calzaghe today,yesterday,or any other day,this question shows me how sad boxing now is when people resort to remembering real legendary fighters like Hagler and long for someone of his calibre to come along again and put away the Calzaghe's of the sport.Marvin would have done his usual fight and knocked out Calzaghe round 6 or 7.

Well one never fought above Middleweight and the other has never fought below super middle so if we put it at a catch weight between the two weights say at 164 then we may be able to come up with a winner.

I really think that we are talking about the best fighter ever in the Middleweight division in Hagler and i really cant see him being beaten by anyone at that weight, i know Leonard decisioned him but we all still debate that to this day and i think most would think that if there was a rematch that Hagler wouldnt of let Sugar Ray get away with the tactics of only fighting for the last 15 seconds of every round.

However, i think in Calzaghe we may well have the best Supermiddleweight of alltime, i know the division hasnt been around as long and so that title wouldnt mean as much but nonetheless i cant think of a better Supermiddle ever.

As for a fight between the two, after seeing Hopkins drop Joe in the first round it makes me think whether Joe would be able to cope with Hagler if Marvin decided to go on the all out attack in the early part of the fight, i know it was only a flash knockdown but i dont think Hagler would of let him off the hook quite as easily. If it did get past those early rounds i could see Joe coming back in to the fight by using his handspeed to get back into the fight but the be all and end all in this fight would be the championship rounds where i see Hagler coming at Calzaghe like a steam train absolutely furious with himself for not putting him away earlier, Calzaghe would be in the trenches for one of the first times in his career and could he handle it against a warrior such as Hagler, my opinion is maybe not, i see either a late late stoppage (TKO) or a close but unanimous decision in Haglers favour.

Calzaghe wouldn't be able to hurt Hagler. Hagler would wear Calzaghe down and stop him about round 10 or 11.

Prime Hagler?  The result is the same result Marvin had against just about everyone except Ray Leonard.  

Marvin lands a lot of medium powered shots until Calz slows down.  Then Marvin finishes the deal with a big KO late.  Hagler KO 10.  Hagler was a force of nature that you had to withstand, not defeat.
