Mike Ford, Oxford City manager has welcomed the signing of defender Marvin Martin. He has been signed from Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division relegation rivals Banbury United.
The 19-year-old is a former Oxford United trainee and is set to make his debut appearance against Stourbridge in Saturday's home game.
Oxford City was without a left-footed player after James Organ got injured and out for several weeks. During last Saturday’s game with Chippenham, striker Kynan Isaac filled his place to secure a victory, but Ford believes that Marvin is a better choice.
Ford admitted to the media that Kynan is good but Marvin has experience at wing-back for one and a half seasons at Banbury.
“He lives around the corner and hadn’t been in their side, so it was too good an opportunity to miss. Although he is only 19, he has bags of talent and we want him to get better.”
Billy Jeffrey, the Banbury United boss was unhappy to lose the player but he said that while it is a shame that he cannot play for his club, he understands that the player wanted to play for his local team.
Nathan Haisley back to Banbury United
Nathan Haisley’s comeback can enhance Banbury’s strengths as they prepare to face Weymouth. The 25-year-old first came to Spencer Stadium in November 2008 from Cirencester Town. He left last October to join the Ryman League side Walton & Hersham and is expected
to start for the club against Weymouth.
Jeffrey is positive about the strength the player brings to his team.
“He thought the grass was greener on the other side, but he found it wasn’t and says he regretted going there. I’m not sure if he will start against Weymouth because although Nathan has kept himself fit, he lacks match fitness because he hasn’t played in
a while. So we are trying to get him match-fit as soon as we can,” he said.
Talking about the clash with Weymouth, Jeffery admitted that it is one of the biggest games in the season for them. Although Banbury leads Weymouth in the points table, they need to be prepared for the massive clash.
