Marvin Rettenmaier busts two players in one hand – WPT Venice 2011
German contestant, Marvin Rettenmaier, finally made his way to the top of the leaders’ board by the end of Day 3 at the WPT (World Poker Tour) Venice on Friday night. Reckoned as one of the most dedicated professional poker players,
Rettenmaier finished the night with massive 817,000 chip count to hold the top spot in the tournament standings. Last night’s chip leader, Taylor von Kreigenbergh, was busted in the 20th place on Day 3. This left only one member of the coveted WPT
Champions Club in the remaining 15 contestants, Roberto Romanello, who finished up Friday night at number 12.
Rettenmaier remained aggressive throughout the day’s play, playing some really risky hands in the process but it eventually paid off in the end. The German will certainly desire to keep his lead on the final day of the tournament
and eventually clinch the title. Friday’s standings on the leaders’ board read as:
1. Marvin Rettenmaier 817,000 2. Michele Caroli 793,000
3. Alex Dovzhenko 730,000 4. Arnaud Mattern 519,000
5. Andrea Benelli 516,000
6. Christopher Creus 495,000 7. Alejandro Sanchez 495,000 8. Edoardo Alescio 431,000
9. Fernando Cimaglia 356,000 10. Wanny Piazza 304,000
The remaining 15 contestants will be battling it out for the championship title at WPT Venice event on Saturday.
Marvin Rettenmaier eliminates two players at a time
Johan Guilbert started the hand with a raise of 11,000 from his late position, followed by a hesitant call from Rettenmaier. The third contestant, Heinz Kamutzki, went all-in with his remaining 73,000 chips, with Rocco Palumbo
raising the bet further to reach 190,000 from the small blind, making the hand even bigger. Guilbert, who posed the initial raise in the hand, folded and Rettenmaier called the bet.
Rettenmaier : queen of hearts, queen of diamonds
Palumbo : ten of diamonds, ten of hearts
Kamutzki : eight of clubs, eight of hearts
Rettenmaier was the favourite for winning the pot but with all the three contestants holding a pair of pocket cards, it was anyone’s game. A king of spades, king of hearts and jack of diamonds fell on the flop, making Rettenmaier’s
position even stronger and Guilber uttered, “this is sick”, in anguish. Another king on the turn and six of hearts on the river eliminated Palumbo and Kamutzki, with Rettenmaier’s stack of chips swelling to a massive 705,000.
