Marvin Rettenmaier finishes at the top after Day 3 – WPT Venice 2011
Excitement rises to its maximum as the WPT (World Poker Tour) Venice enters its last rounds after four days of thrilling play. Just 15 contestants have survived out of a huge field of 213 from the opening day at the Casino Di Venezia
in the Floating city of Venice. Considered to be one of the most dedicated professional poker players in the world, Marvin Rettenmaier from Germany, finished at the top of the standings on Day 3 of the tournament, with a huge chip count of 817,000, on Friday
night.
Thursday night’s topper of the leaders’ board and a member of the elite WPT Champions Club, Taylor von Kreigenbergh, was eliminated at the 20th place on Day 3. The only member of the WPT Champions Club to survive in
the remaining 15 contestants is Roberto Romanello, holding the 12th spot with 237,000 chips in the bag. The official standings on the leaders’ board at the end of Day 3 are:

1.       Marvin Rettenmaier     817,000 2.       Michele Caroli               793,000
3.       Alex Dovzhenko           730,000 4.       Arnaud Mattern            519,000 5.       Andrea Benelli              516,000
6.       Christopher Creus        495,000 7.       Alejandro Sanchez       495,000 8.       Edoardo Alescio            431,000
9.       Fernando Cimaglia       356,000 10.   Wanny Piazza                  304,000

Rettenmaier was sitting on the table with a stack of 326,000 chips in his bag but more than doubled them by the end of the night. The German went on for a heads-up encounter with Antonio Massi, who moved all-in when the board read
king of clubs, nine of diamonds, four of hearts, eight of hearts and king of hearts. Massi was confident with his king and three of spades, aiming for a pair to outplay Rettenmaier. The German readily called the bet, throwing his hole card to reveal an ace
and jack of hearts to register a nut flush, leaving Massi in sheer surprise.
“How did you do that?” uttered Massi out of disappointment and Rettenmaier replied with just a broad smile to collect the big pot, increasing his stack of chips to 490,000. Rettenmaier will be eyeing for the WPT Venice title on
Saturday as the remaining 15 contestants battle it out in the Level 17 of the event.
