Marvin Sordell signs new Watford contract
Watford striker Marvin Sordell has signed a new contract with Watford, keeping him at the club until the end of 2013.
The 19-year-old youngster has scored four times in his last four games for the club. He is quickly becoming one of the most talented strikers in England, and the club has done well to secure his future
quickly.
"Marvin came to us quite late and had some initial problems settling in, but he's worked very hard, done very well and came fresh out of pre-season. He has really come a long way in a short period of time.
It's testament to the hard work he's put in and he deserves his pro contract," said academy manager Mark Warburton.
Sordell will have to play a big role for the club if Watford wants to make a strong push for the Premier League this season.
Consistency is key if Watford wants to make a play-off or automatic place in the Championship. Sordell is a very talented striker, but the real test is whether he can maintain his good form.
The pressure now falls on the coaches and staff at the club to make sure the striker doesn't get carried away. Sordell is enjoying his first professional contract, and the club staff needs to make sure
that he stays focused on the football.
Other members of the side have also got to weigh in. Current captain John Eustace needs to keep the side together to ensure that Sordell has the opportunity to score.
"Marvin has now realised what he needs to do and he's displayed good commitment. He is still vulnerable, as all young players are, to losing focus, but the coaching staff will continue to work with him,"
added Warburton.
