Marvin Williams will not travel with the Atlanta Hawks to Minnesota
Marvin Williams, starting small forward for the Atlanta Hawks, will not travel with the team to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday 5 November at the Target Center in Minnesota.
The third-year player out of North Carolina injured his knee in the Hawks’ 94-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday 3 November. Williams was battling for a loose ball with Greg
Monroe of the Pistons when he came down awkwardly on his right knee in the fourth quarter. He had 11 points and eight rebounds before leaving the game.
Playing just over 30 minutes per contest this season, the 24-year-old is averaging 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game so far this year. The second overall pick in the
2005 NBA Draft, Williams has played consistently so far in his young career, putting up similar numbers his first two seasons.
The Hawks, seventh in the league in assists (22.8) and seventh in points allowed (94.6), are the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference, having won their first six games of the season.
The Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Hornets are the only other two unbeaten teams in the NBA this year. Williams said there’s a different vibe to the team, who finished last season with the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.
“It’s just a different feel,” he said. “It’s better but I don’t know how you can explain it the right way. We won a lot of games last year, so anybody trying to disrespect what we did
or how we did it has to take that into account.”
Jamal Crawford of the Hawks missed their last game against Detroit with a turf toe injury but did travel with the team to Minnesota. While his status is uncertain for the game, he would
likely replace Williams in the starting lineup if he’s ready to play.
