Marwan Koukash pins hopes on Gabrial
Owner Marwan Koukash is confident that his challenger Gabrial will be able to deliver top quality results in the upcoming events, which have attracted some extremely good runners from all over the country.
According to him, “Gabrial is now 111 but Richard [Fahey, trainer] rates him so highly that he's entered him in the Group 1 Queen Anne, Prince of Wales's and Eclipse. He also told me the horse wouldn't have blown out a candle immediately after the Doncaster
race, so he clearly won with plenty in hand.”
The four-year-old gelding has got a pretty decent record and knows how to deliver good results with consistency. He has managed to maintain a pretty decent winning percentage, which shows that he doesn’t like setting for the second best.
He started off his career in 2011 and made a mark straightaway with a couple of splendid victories. He was unable to repeat such dominance afterwards and there was a downfall in his form. Despite that, he kept on working hard and started improving with the
passage of time. He also learnt with experience and things started getting better for him overall.
The Irish challenger has participated in a total of 11 races until now, winning four of them whereas finished as a runner up once. In addition to that, he has also secured the third spot on three occasions, which shows that he has been challenging the best
in the business with consistency.
This year, Gabrial has participated in just one race and his performance in it was top notch, as he finished on top of the table comfortably. He was not rated as the favourite back then, but still managed to surprise one and all in the end.
However, Weekender columnist Kieren Fallon stated, “The Chester Cup looks ultra-competitive as always and my mount Very Good Day, for Dr Marwan Koukash, has some good form over 2m. Last season he won a decent two-miler at York off a mark of 85 and off 92
this week he is not harshly treated but stall 13 is a big minus.”
