would marx see say a single parent family as within their class structure?

  1. Marxism was based off two family system with the man providing the job and thus, the class recognition.  Working women would automatically be classified as lower class in the cache system.

Actually, Engels brought issues of gender roles to the fore in Marx's thinking - though somewhat late in their collaboration.  And, as products of their times, Marx and Engels made a number of assumptions about what single parent families would consist of, but with surprising sensitivity to issues of gender inequity and gender discrimination.  

    Certainly single parent families are treated in Marxian thought as being within a class structure, but not within any specific one, and generally not constitutive of a particular class apart from the main, agentive classes in class struggle.
