I am at a stand still on this information, I need this woman's parent's names. I am trying to trace the family to the cherokee indian heritage and her daughter, Cordelia Bell Gaut, is my g-g-grandmother who was said to be full blood but this cannot be true because the Gaut family were immagrants. So now I am focusing on the Archer family. I have found the name Archer in the Rolls but I cannot seem to find Mary's parents names. Her maiden name is Archer. Her husband was J. Las Gaut. Her children were Cordelia Bell Gaut, Leola L. Gaut, Minnie P Gaut Keys. Her children are burried at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Washington, TN. The Gaut name has also been spelled Gott.

This link should take you to my geni.com page I don't know if anyone will be able to view it but I have all the privacy settings on public.

This will take some time, trying to match first names with rolls.  Plus you need to go down a few generations from the 1840 census to the children's children and to their children to see if somewhere they were "captured" on a roll.

My family lived on the TN/GA border. They removed to Arkansas and are on the Old Settlers Rolls, which doesn't get you recognized, just proves a heritage.  One line did go to Oklahoma and were there in 1904 to get on the Dawes Rolls. The siblings lines were out of luck.

It's possible that your indian heritage comes from a female side so you would need to try and find as many maiden names as possible.

Your family remained in TN so they probably aren't on any rolls, unless one of the children went to an area that took a roll.

  2. Hi Jen,

That site requires visitors to sign up...  I'm signed up already but can't see your tree unless I'm your Friend or Family, so have sent you an invite.

I'll go back and look, I thought the Archer family in the census that I found for you in Washington County was also all from TN -- were you able to determine that was not the right family?

  4. A friend of mine does this sort of thing and he's always said to check with the moremen churchs.  They keep really good records and yes even on people who aren't moremen.  I'm sure you've already check the old censes.  I can also use genealogy sites to look up this stuff.  You'll have to pay for them, but they have copies of actually documents posted up there.  You mentioned that some of your relatives were imagrants.  They should have ship logs up there that you could get.
