  1. Ok, Mary Queen Of Scots and Bloody Mary , are two different people.

Yes, Mary Queen of Scots is her cousin.

But Bloody Mary is Elizebeths half sister from Henrys first marriage to Catherine Of Aragon.

Heres a link that'll give you some info on Mary Tudor ( Bloody Mary)

  2. No, "The Tudors" was not remotely accurate, but then it was based on Philippa Gregory's novel which wasn't accurate in the first place. So don't go there if you want to learn any history.

  3. It's a common mistake to confuse Mary I of England (Bloody Mary) and Mary, Queen of Scots.

As explained, Mary, Queen of Scots was Elizabeth I's cousin; she was the granddaughter of Henry VIII's sister, Margaret Tudor, who was married to James IV of Scotland.

Bloody Mary was Elizabeth I's half-sister.  They shared the same father, Henry VIII, but Mary was the daughter of Katherine of Aragon, Henry's first wife, and Elizabeth was the daughter of Anne Boleyn, Henry's second wife - the first one who was beheaded.

Bloody Mary was called so because, when she came to the throne, she tried hard to turn England back to Catholicism, her and her mother's religion.  In doing so, she burned nearly 300 people for heresy.  Her father, Henry, had broken from the Catholic church because the pope wouldn't grant him a divorce to marry Anne Boleyn, and set himself up as the Head of the Church of England.  (It's complicated, but I'm trying to give you an overview!)

"The Tudors" is horribly inaccurate.  None of the characters look like they would have, particularly Henry VIII, who had golden-red hair, small eyes and a cruel, thin-lipped mouth.  His sisters, in reality Margaret and Mary, are merged into one character, a murderous female.  Henry is portrayed as a womaniser, whereas he was not; he wanted to be married in order to father a legitimate heir, and had few mistresses.  The producers also alter history...

For a start, I recommend you to read books by Alison Weir, Alison Plowden, Antonia Fraser and David Starkey.  I found Alison Weir particularly readable, with a lot of personal detail that brings the people of history to life.

Of Ms Weir's books, try "Children of England", which deals with Henry VIII's three children in detail, and Lady Jane Grey, who was queen for nine days after Henry's son, Edward VI.  She also wrote books on Henry's court, Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots.  "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" is also very good.

  4. "bloody Mary" was in fact Henry's first child and Elizabeth's older half sister, she was a little Pìssed with her dad and the ordered the death of his religious (political) followers, Whereas Mary Queen of Scots was Elizabeth's cousin.

Mary was also the mother of James the first of England who was also the king of Scotland!

Sorry but I think you have your history a little confused!

  5. Mary, Queen of Scots was not known as "Bloody Mary". Mary I of England was known as "Bloody Mary". She was Elizabeth I's half-sister.

Mary, Queen of Scots was first cousin-once removed to three monarchs of England - Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I because her grandmother (Margaret Tudor) was the Aunt of all three English monarchs (as their father was Henry VIII - brother of Margaret).

  6. I have not watched the Tudors but it looks fantastic.  I have heard that is is graphic and I have young boys.

May I suggest reading Margaret George books?  She wrote one on Mary Queen of Scots and one on Henry VIII.  They are historical novels, so you get the history lessons with some drama.  Just terrific!!!

She also has books on Mary Magdalen, Cleopatra, and Helen of Troy!

  7. Henry VIII's oldest sister, Margaret Tudor, was Mary Stuart's grandmother, that's how she was Elizabeth's cousin. Bloody Mary was a nickname for Mary Tudor, Elizabeth's half-sister.

You should read Philippa Gregory's Tudor series of novels. There are five, in chronological order of events:

    The Constant Princess

    The Other Boleyn Girl

    The Boleyn Inheritance

    The Queen's Fool

    The Virgin's Lover
