  1. She was imprisioned for a total of 24 years in a number of different prisions. Most notably were Loch Leven and Carlisle Castle.  She was beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire on February 8, 1587.

The execution was carreid out onder the orders of Elizibeth I, her cousin for Mary's alleged involvement in the Babington Plot.

She was never imprsioned in the Tower of London

  2. Yes, Queen Elizabeth I (her cousin!) had her killed. She was beheaded. I actually watched a movie today all about this but i can't seem to remember. it should be online

  3. She was buried in France. And most likely kept in the Tower of London during her trial.

  4. When Mary entered England on May 19, she was imprisoned by Elizabeth's officers at Carlisle. During her imprisonment, she famously had the phrase "In my end is my beginning" embroidered on her cloth of estate. Mary was moved to Bolton Castle in July 1568, which was outfitted for her stay there, until January 1568. Elizabeth considered Mary's designs on the English throne to be a serious threat, and so eighteen years of confinement followed, much of it in Sheffield Castle and Sheffield Manor until 1580. Mary's confinement was transferred to Sir Amias Paulet, until her execution in 1587.

She was sentenced to beheading at Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire on February 8, 1587. Mary's body was embalmed and left unburied at her place of execution for a year after her death. Her remains were placed in a secure lead coffin (thought to be further signs of fear of relic hunting). She was initially buried at Peterborough Cathedral in 1588, but her body was exhumed in 1612 when her son, King James I of England, ordered she be reinterred in Westminster Abbey. It remains there, along with at least 40 other descendants, in a chapel on the other side of the Abbey from the grave of her father's cousin Elizabeth I.

Mary Stuart was executed on charges of treason. It was believed that she intentionally took part of the "Babington Plot", against her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. The plot was to simply get rid of Elizabeth, and make Mary both Queen of England and Scotland. Elizabeth herself did not want to execute Mary, because Mary was Queen of Scot, and to kill God anointed Queen was a sin.

Elizabeth was totally against killing Queen Mary, however, her privy council strongly recommended that in order to secure Elizabeth's throne, she must get rid of Mary first. As long as Mary was alive, she will always remain a threat to England.

Under the ordinary laws of succession, Mary was next in line to the English throne after her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, who was childless. In the eyes of many Catholics Elizabeth was illegitimate, making Mary the true heir. However the Third Succession Act of 1543 provided that Elizabeth would succeed Mary Tudor on the throne.

  5. As a Scotsman i will never EVER  forget what the English Queen did to my Queen. Can you imagine it now adays.. Little Queen Elizabeth being taken away to another country and being beheaded. Its sickening... never trust an englishman
