1. What are the dimensions of the parallel parking space?

(so i can practice like crazy)

2. Where is the best location to take the test?

I went to Beltsville last time and they were so mean and the guy made me so nervous cuz he kept yelling!... is there a better/easier place to take it? I'm thinking about going to Glen Burnie...

3. Any other tips? I mainly screwed up on the parking... I touched the poles like 5 times lol, it was bad.

  1. I tested at the Annapolis MVA center. The first thing I had to do was pull into the test course and do parallel parking, that was of course after they finish checking out your car to make sure everything is in working order.

The dimensions of the parallel parking space is 6 feet wide by 25 feet long according to the handbook.

The instructor will ask you to park in a designated area on the course. Pull past the space, so your rear bumper is right next to the "front" end of the space. Put on your right turn signal as you do this IMPORTANT: Make sure your right turn signal stays on as you maneuver into the space. Just keep hitting it back on as you turn your wheel. Once you're "in" the space and straightening out, you can leave it off.

As you begin backing up, cut your wheel all the way to the right, and as your passenger side door passes the front end of the space (the rear end of the "car" next to you), cut back to the left. This should get you in the space really well, and pretty close to the curb. Then just pull forward, and then reverse again, cutting to the left again if you need to get closer to the curb. Try to use the entire space. If you don't get in too well the first time, you should still have plenty of time left on the clock to jiggle into place. Most people get screwed by trying to pull out and start over. Don't this, even if they say you're allowed to. Just work with what you have done so far.

Two: Three point turn. The instructor will at some point ask you to turn right into a large box, then make your three point turn. Just do as he says, the box should be big enough for whatever car you've got.

Three: Reverse in a straight line. At some point after driving down a main stretch, the instructor will tell you to back up in a straight line. DO exactly that, using your rear light or back seat headrest as a reference. Just back up straight as you can, making sure you keep your left hand at "12 o clock" on the steering wheel, and just use minor adjustments. Keep your other arm behind the passenger seat.

Four: Stopping at the STOP signs, make sure you stop for at least 3 full seconds and look left and right as if you are looking for traffic and what not.

Also make sure to use your turn signals. Other than than that, GOOD LUCK!

  2. TIP:

    Practice, practice, practice!

  3. A parallel parking spot is usually 8 feet by 20 feet long.  Go to an open parking lot and bring something that will "box" the parking spot to simulate cars on each end and a curb.

Then practice parallel parking.  Good luck.

    See links below for help.

As far as the "test cops" being hard-@sses, well, that's their job.  Situations on the road can be far more horrible than they can ever be.
